Can someone adequately explain why motivational speaker Peter Sage went to prison?

Peter Sage organized a phenomenal scam by creating the illusion he was raising money to start a new company to help with global energy problems.

He then went to Hewlett Packard Enterprise and convinced them he is acting in the global good so they sold him IT equipment at a great discount. Sage sold then the equipment (the whole thing was a scam and there is good evidence for it) and HPE were suing him for the difference between the low price they gave him and the real market price. A difference of $17.5 M.

there was an ongoing case and the supreme court required him to freeze all his assets during the investigation.

he did not do that and they sent him to prison for “contempt of the court” - i.e. not following court orders.

He served his sentence and was released, but obviously many people realized he is definitely not the next Nelson Mandela who will save the world, but a great scam artist, a role he played to perfection.

I do not know what happened thereafter. Did HPE drop the claim or what?
